So since this was requested in the Jconvo thread, I decided to make it.

te is used to signal that something is going to happen after.


ex. kouen ni itte taberu

go to the park and eat



In your scenario, it's past-tense so you would make it ta.

itta

ta is used for past-tense

hon o watashita

handed a book
